Effluent Irrigation

turn a problem into an asset

FarmX System Effluent Irrigation

This award-winning capability, developed in partnership with Massey University soil scientists, allows farmers to turn animal waste into an asset that grows their pasture and crops while minimizing runoff and leaching.

Effluent Irrigation
  • Irrigation Advice

Know when a field can accept effluent irrigation without runoff and leaching

  • Track Pond Levels

Manage pond levels and know how many pumping hours it will take to reach level targets

  • Create Reports

    Fulfill regulatory requirements with ease

  • Track and Record Pump Activity

An optional pump activity sensor records each application

Fertilize with Effluent

FarmX Effluent Irrigation tracks the soil moisture status of the field and the effluent pond level status in comparison to the full point (optional and customizable). Based on that data, FarmX Insights gives quantified effluent irrigation advice – whether it is safe to irrigate, and if so, how much (in mm). In addition, the capability performs a 14 day review of Good Management Practices when used with an optional pump activity sensor.

Reduce Input and Feed Cost

FarmX effluent management capability allows dairy and livestock farmers to turn the waste from their animals into an asset that grows their pastures and crops reducing the need for buying nitrogen or supplemental feed.

Minimize Runoff and Leaching

We estimate that most standard effluent systems lose 20% of their applications to runoff and leaching. This not only costs unnecessary money, but is also bad for the environment. With our system you can gain insight and advice to lose less.

Research & Validation

Farm X agronomists validated this feature through stringent testing. Both EC saturated paste and leaching were measured throughout the season for various crop types including orchards and broadacre crops.

Samples were regularly taken from areas near the sensor for lab testing and were sourced globally from independent labs. To test for leaching, field experiments were conducted in-house and in conjunction with projects conducted by third party research groups.

The algorithm achieved over 90% accuracy in classifying leaching events when compared to manually labeled data by expert agronomists and agronomic service providers.
